Human Resource Generalist
This position is responsible for performing HR and Payroll related duties on a professional level and works closely with HR team in supporting department, primarily in Overland Park, but also in various locations. This position carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: payroll and benefits administration, development of policy handbooks, employee relations, performance management, onboarding, policy implementation, recruitment/employment, affirmative action and employment law compliance.
A broad HR Generalist background and a strong track record of developing and implementing HR handbooks, policies, and procedures, as well as navigating multi-jurisdictional compliance, is preferred.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepares and processes bi-weekly payroll for up to 200 employees and contractors.
- Develop, implement, and maintain HR handbooks, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance.
- Manage contractor hiring, onboarding, and compliance, applying best practices to ensure alignment with company and legal standards.
- Handle state-specific and international requirements, including Secretary of State registrations, unemployment insurance (SUI), state income tax (SIT), withholding, and other employment-related regulations. (International experience is not required, but preferred).
- Ensure compliance with labor laws, employment regulations, and industry standards.
- Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
- Track and analyze HR metrics to provide actionable insights for decision-making.
Key Qualifications:
- HR Degree and/or PHR certification
- Analyzes, prepares and inputs payroll data to include garnishments, vacation time, sick time, insurance and 401(k) deductions, in multi-state jurisdictions preferred. Ensures compliance with all applicable state and federal wage and hour laws.
- Experience implementing a new payroll platform or HRIS system would be helpful, being “tech savvy” when it comes to software would be a big plus.
- Strong background in developing employee handbooks, policies, and procedures from the ground up or optimizing existing frameworks.
- Understanding of compliance with U.S. and global labor laws, as well as contractor management.
- Experience managing payroll, benefits administration, and state registration requirements (e.g., SUI, SIT, withholding).
- Knowledge of PEO and ASO models, along with HR outsourcing best practices.
- Strong communication and presentation skills, including experience working with C-suite executives.
